At home our days are busy, some afternoons include after school activities for all the children. Maisie recently started ballet classes and after a couple she was running in. She calls it her “ballet show” and she loves to go. The teachers are kind and encouraging and whenever I peer through the window Maisie is participating just as much as the other girls. Maisie has also started Gaelic and her big sister goes along to help with coaching, although the treats at the end may be the reason she goes!

Now that Maisie is talking more, there is less frustration for the times I’m unsure of what she says. She’ll tell me if her tummy hurts, if she wants to play something specific. There’s a bit of asking for television “watch cocomelon please mummy” with a big smile on her face! She is supposed to wear glasses all the time and she is very good at wearing them during school but at home I’d ask her where her glasses are and she just laughs at me. The rascal hides them under tables, chairs, the couch. I found them once behind a radiator so I really do need eyes in the back of my head!

Maisie has had a lovely minder Maja on a friday afternoon for the last couple of years and they have a wonderful relationship. They’ll spend a whole afternoon laughing together on the bus, at the café and the playground. She clings to Maja when she’s leaving giggling away, and generally being silly. Now Maisie has another minder on a Monday as I’ve gone back to college. She liked Estefany from the beginning and when I come home she is all smiles and usually covered in paint! I like to think these relationships will help Maisie going forward for when she attends primary school, she can be shy and I’ll probably worry about her being in a big busy classroom but with the right people around her, she will continue to thrive.

I like many other busy parents get distracted or overwhelmed by the emotional and physical workload involved in daily life. There’s times I could be stressing about something (probably not that important) and Maisie will tell me she loves me. Well that certainly brings me back to the present and reminds me of how lucky I am.

Here she is ready for Big School a year early!💙💛
